Links of the week

Well, dear reader, it sure has been awhile since we've done our "Links of the Week" feature. I really like this particular part of my blog because I am a major online shopper/reader and it allows me to share some really cool sites with you guys.

With the holiday's coming up, I thought I might share some of my personal faves for gift shopping. I don't "do" holiday in-store retail. It just isn't gonna happen over here. I don't like crowds and I have a 3-inch buffer of personal space around me that if is penetrated by a stranger, I will take action. Therefore, stores + holiday crowds do not = a good match for Danelle.

One of my very favorite places to buy stocking stuffers, gifts for friends, clients and co-workers (and myself) is SPACASSO. This place is awesome. The entire line of products is soy based an AH-MAZING. You know it is difficult to get the Ah-mazing stat from me. I have purchased a gazillion candles from this line because they smell crazy good, moisturizers, lip treatments and scrubs. All their products leave you not only smelling delicious, but incredibly soft as well.

One of my all time favorite items they sell is the PoshSoylicious Lip Spa Scrub. I have been blessed with incredibly dry lips that peel and are always flaky. I've tried everything in the book and this is the only product that has saved my poor lips. Now, I don't look like I've got some sort of drug habit or weird disease and I can wear my lipstick without it leaving big chunks of lipstick stained lip flesh on my teeth.

The Silk Body Essence Sprays rock my socks because you are getting two products for the price of one. It is a moisturizing spray with glorious scent, so you can moisturize and perfume yourself all in one spray. How awesome is that?

Go to SPACASSO today and order for the holidays, or for yourself. You won't regret it. BTW, get the "Birthday Candle". It smells EXACTLY like a birthday cake. I. LOVE. IT.

Next on my list is Personal Wine. Ummmm, could this be anymore cool? You can totally make up your own label and have it slapped on a major tasty wine and send it out to your friends. They will be so jealous that you have a winery and are so successful.

Alex, the owner is amazing and he will do a great job making you the perfect wine bottle for your friends, family, co-workers, clients, etc. Go to Personal Wine today and setup your account for life. It will be worth it!

Need some sweet deals? Don't know where to get them? Tired of everyone knowing what is going on in Houston except for you? Then, perhaps you should start reading Houston On The Cheap. What a fantastic site. It gives a constant running list things to do in Houston, deals around town, events that are coming up, charity fundraisers, art shows, etc. Houston On The Cheap is the best site to read if you want something to do for the weekend, but don't want to pay a fortune to do it. My favorite time to read this site is whenever a holiday is coming up. It gives me some great ideas for events that I can enjoy with my family and it is a great way to schedule functions for you and your kids when they will be out of school. Visit Houston On The Cheap today, you won't regret it!

This is not holiday related, but I have become obsessed with the Rick Roll. Please tell me you know what it means to be Rick Roll'd? I enjoy this so much. My poor sister, Dee Anne, has been the beneficiary of the majority of my Rick Rolling, but I can't help it. Once you get started, it becomes addicting.

If you don't know what being Rick Roll'd is, please let me educate you. Rick Astley had a video, back in the 80's for his song, Never Gonna Give You Up. If you watch it today, it is so funny. Especially when the dude in the short shorts jumps up on a fence in the middle of the video for no apparent reason whatsoever. He looks like this:

So, after seeing this video, you chuckle a bit at how silly it was and how silly the 80's was. Then you start to plot and scheme. You copy the youtube link for this video, go to, enter the link you copied, and then send a message to someone that tricks them into viewing it. For instance, the other day my sister was trying to get me to watch Mad Men. So, I sent her an email titled Mad Men and the body of the email was "This is why I WON'T watch Mad Men". I knew it would stress her out enough to click on the link. She did. She saw a Rick Astley video. She got "Rick Roll'd". Get it? Yes, it is childish and stupid, but hilarious if you have a good sense of humor.

Here is the video, just to get you started. It is so darn funny:

Ok, back to some serious linkage. This is my final link, and one of my faves. Tracy Tesmer Photography. Tracy Tesmer is an amazing photographer who is one of few left in this world that works strictly with film. She is capable of digital, of course, but she believes in the beauty of actual film. I love all of her work. She is running a fabulous special right now for Christmas portraits, so if I were you, I would get in contact with her asap. Here are a few examples of her amazing work:

Hope you enjoyed this weeks links!! Have a great week!!

Humane Society Annual Collection

Hello All!!!

It's that time of year again! I am collecting donations for the Humane Society from November 16, 2009 thru January 4, 2010. This year all donations will go to the Galveston chapter of the Humane Society. Since Hurricane Ike, the Galveston Island Humane Society has never quite recovered and those poor little animals are in desperate need of some TLC. We are coming up on the 2-3 months of the year where it drops below 60 degrees. Those animals get chilly at night! Also, sometimes it is just nice for them to know someone cares.

Currently, the Galveston Island Humane Society is in need of the following (taken directly from their website):

* Dry dog/puppy food
* Dog/puppy collars
* Grooming supplies
* baby shampoo
* Dog toys
* Flea/tick spray/dip
* Small rugs

* Dry cat/kitten food
* Kitten formula
* Lots of cat litter (non-clumping)
* Toilet lid covers to use for cat beds
* Litter boxes
* Cat toys

* Bleach
* Paper towels
* Scrub shirts
* Laundry and liquid dish soap
* Towels

If you are someone who can donate services to help the Galveston Island Humane Society, they are currently in need of the following (taken directly from their website):

* electrician
* building maintenance
* animal grooming
* printing
* landscaping
* janitorial
* fence installation
* locksmith, etc.

Lastly, a neat idea would be the "Give the Gift of Comfort" option. This is a special way to show you care. An animal will get a good night's sleep and you will know that you are contributing to the welfare of the poor babies who are scared, homeless and want to feel safe. Make them more comfortable by purchasing a bed through this link: Donate to Galveston Island Human Society. All beds will be 30%-35% off of regular retail prices if you purchases through the aforementioned link and donate to the Galveston Island Humane Society.

I will update drop off locations for food and supplies. Currently, the main drop off location is:

Boulevard Realty
1545 Heights Blvd.
Houston, TX 77008

If you are in Galveston, then the drop off is:

Boulevard Realty
1401 Post Office
Galveston, TX 77550
Please ask for Bill Hammond at this location.

Keep in mind, financial donations are always appreciated. I do not collect these, however, if you want to donate funds to the Galveston Island Humane Society, please go here to do so: Contributions

Looking forward to seeing all of my fellow animal lovers come out in great force again this year. Last year was a great success for the Houston Chapter, now lets help out those who really need us in Galveston.

Take care,

2125 Yale Apartments

So, this week we are going to focus on Real Estate related issues. Simply because I have been working so darned much and things keep popping into my head that I feel you all must know!

Are you a renter? Do you have an apartment that makes you feel like you are at home when you walk in? Do you have fabulous views of the city, big windows, concrete or wood floors and awesome updates? Or, are you living in an apartment with old and nasty blinds, carpet, a white refrigerator to match your two-toned white cabinets with wood trim and cramming your clothing into something that resembles a linen closet? Is the pool at your complex so big you can swim major laps, or is it just big enough for you to swim 3 laps? Do you rent at a complex with a workout facility that is so updated you don't need a gym membership?

I didn't think so. Well, don't worry. I am here to help you. You simply MUST live at 2125 Yale in The Heights. This place is gorgeous. Each unit is different, there are tons of amenities and the views are so nice. Plus, it is QUIET. Speaking from experience as a renter, that is imperative. I cannot stand apartment complexes that seem fantastic, then you stand inside the apartment only to hear the Metro bus stop every 30 minutes, the neighbors across the street yelling at each other and dogs barking incessantly. Not at 2125 Yale, my friend. This place rocks.

The location of this complex is one of the reasons it is so appealing. Because it is on Yale and 21st St., you can easily walk to all the happening stores, restaurants, etc. that The Heights has to offer on 19th St.

For those naysayers who are all in an uproar because this is in the location where the old Kaplan's store used to be, let me set you straight. First, Kaplan's closed down BEFORE this company purchased the land to build this complex. 2125 Yale did not, I repeat-DID NOT-buy out Kaplan's and force them to shut down to build this property. Second, To preserve some of Kaplan's fantastic history and because the owners are sensitive to The Heights residents and their pride in this history, the builders installed the same original wood flooring from the Kaplan's store into the property. So, when you walk into the leasing office/club room/conference area of 2125 Yale, you are walking on the floor of history! Third, Kaplan's provided the owners of 2125 Yale with massive black and white photos for the property to proudly hang in their leasing office. Need I say more?

Well, I will. You have to go see this complex for yourself. I drove by it a million times and didn't really think much of it. But, let me tell you, this place is gorgeous. They really thought of everything when they built this place. Even the corridors are air conditioned. So, you don't have to sweat walking to your place. They have some units with epoxied concrete floors (bedrooms are carpeted for your sleeping convenience), wood flooring or the option of carpet.

The kitchens are TOO DIE FOR and a chef's dream. The islands in the 2 bedroom suites are massive, but what was most impressive was the fact that an island is included even in the 1 bedroom floorplans (most of them). Every unit comes equipped with a full size washer and dryer as well as some type of storage area on the balcony/patio. Some of the floorplans come with built-in desks, so you don't even need to find space for an office! And, most important to me, all units have garden tubs. If you love your hot baths, that will make you happy. The finishing touches on these apartments are so pretty, my pictures just don't do them justice. The wood that was chosen for the kitchen cabinetry is so beautiful and all the appliances are stainless steal. The wall colors are the perfect neutral, the shades for the windows are beautiful and the whole place just screams "I am awesome, come love me".

Here are a few pics and some descriptions of what you are looking at:

The most beautiful home in The Heights!!!

Use the tax credit to buy this home!

I have seen so many houses in The Heights that I could rattle off to you what nearly every single one of them looks like in the interior, how much they sold for and what their upgrades include. After seeing so many homes that I thought were just lovely I can honestly say, without a doubt, that this home is BY FAR one of the most beautiful in this area. It is owned by an Interior Designer who renovated it and obviously has FABULOUS taste!!

She is selling it for a mere $649,900 which is a steal considering what some other comparable properties are going for in this same neighborhood. The home is so stunning that I actually gasped when I entered. If you are at all in the market for a home in this price range, or if you know someone who is, you NEED to call me and view this. You will likely fall in love with it as much as I have.

Located on Rutland in The Heights, the home is a 3/2/2 with an extra half bath/changing room in the garage for pool use. The home looks as if it has a ton of yard, but thanks to smart landscaping and the use of flagstone, it is easily maintained. There are 2 living areas, one formal, one casual and the master bed/bath have to be seen to be believed. The home is 2416 sq ft and on a large 6600 sq ft lot.

Here are some pictures of this lovely home, listed by my broker, Bill Baldwin. Pictures are courtesy of him and HAR/MLS.

Bath Junkie

How in the world did I go so long without knowing about this place? Actually, that statement is incorrect. I did know about this place, I just mistook it for another one of the billion typical bath product stores. So, I just ignored it. I mean, gimme some Dove soap and a bottle of Cetaphil lotion and I'm good to go.

I will admit that even though my nightly bath routine borders on lame, I have always wanted to be one of those girly girls who has a bucket of lotions, soaps, fizzies, oils, scrubs, etc. that make me reek of fruity splendor when finished showering. That being said, I'm also kind of a weirdo about packaging. I don't like products to be in funky, bright, hot pink (thought I love pink), bottles or packaged in such a way that it would take an hour for me to open, thus leaving me quite puckered and useless in my bathtub.

Bath Junkie
is perfect for people like me as well as for all those feminine chicks that like all the frills. The most awesome part is that you are not stuck choosing from a few scents that some dude in a lab in Canada thought women wanted. Oh no my friend, YOU are the scent maker! How amazingly cool is that? Bath Junkie has a huge set of different essential oils and they give you a ton of little tester sheets so you can try a bunch of combinations to personalize your odor. I mean scent. Now, if you are like me and cannot handle this daunting task, they have a menu of different scents that you can try on your tester sheets. It is like a cheat sheet. I love to cheat. Best of all, you still get to feel like you are creating your custom made scent because the ingredients for each scent on the menu are listed so you can use your little tester paper and oils just like all your more creative and talented friends.

Bath Junkie's essential oil station:

The "mixing area", tissue paper is available color selections for your product:

After you have you achieved your desired smell, you take it to the sweet lady at the front and then the real fun begins. You choose from a bevy of different formulas to add your custom scent(s) to. Creams, soaps, bath bombs, shampoos, salt scrubs, moisturizer, hand santizing soap, perfume, glitter lotion, I mean seriously, the possibilities here are endless.

Bath Junkie formula options for your scent (just a few of them, there are a TON):

Once you have your scent(s) and formula(s) picked, the nice lady up front mixes them all together in a big bowl while you watch. You get to pick what color you want your lotion, soap, etc to be and then she adds coloring as the final touch. She lets you smell it to be sure it is to your liking, and then she scoops it all up and puts it in a very chic, non-frilly bottle, jar, etc. Me lovey.

Adding color:

If you simply must have some frill, there are some pre-made options there as well. Oh, and a HUGE selection of rubber duckies. So adorable. They also have various items that you can purchase for your bathtime ritual such as hair turbans, those soaker towels, bathrobes, slippers, scrubbers, etc. I mean it, this place is awesome.

Bath Junkie Rubber Duckies, Robes, Scrubbers, etc.:

Rubber Duckies:

Robes, towels, slippers:

Scrubbers and some pre-made items (there are a lot more than I was able to capture here):

Some of the bath bombs:

Bath Junkie also has Birthday Packages available. They will set up a table for you and your friends so you can bring food and drinks and spend the day doing girly things. That's awesome because you get to benefit from your friend turning a year older by getting some sweet deals. Call and ask about the birthday packages, they are awesome.
