After the successful completion of SLGT's partnership with Habitat For Humanity on September 13-19, I felt compelled to post regarding the upcoming annual 'World Habitat Day' that has been designated by the United Nations to take place the first Monday in October of every year, this year being October 4, 2010.
This year, the Houston Habitat For Humanity local affiliate will be participating in two ways. First, the event will be used to raise awareness by posting pictures and information on the local Habitat For Humanity Facebook page, and second, local restaurants can donate a portion of their sales that day to the local chapter.
What a great way to help this cause! During the SLGT build, so many volunteers went out and got their hands dirty, sweat buckets and took time off of work to build a new home for a deserving family. However, it is understandable that not everyone can do this kind of work, nor do they have the time or work schedule that allows them to. By participating in 'World Habitat Day', you can give back to Houston and to those in need when circumstances prevented you from being able to do so in an actual build project.
What can be easier than taking a picture of yourself holding a sign that says "What will you build?" and submitting it to the Habitat For Humanity Facebook page? If you find yourself grabbing a bite for lunch or dinner that day, why not do so at a participating restaurant?
